Happy Anniversary

Okay, so our anniversary was a couple of days ago, but I'm usually way behind the times on blogging anyway. We had a good anniversary, and managed to sqeeze in a little time for us. You want to know the best part of our anniversary? Russ. He is a wonderful husband, and it's been a marvelous 8 years. But the next best thing was that the kids miraculously all slept in and low and behold I had the quietest morning that I've had in about 5 years. They woke up happy. No whining, crying, fighting, or yelling. A nice breakfast with laughter and smiles. Too bad Russ was at work. I have learned to appreciate these moments since 3 extremely active, strong-willed, smart, and crazy children bless my life.

Vampires and monsters, and talking sandwiches, Oh My!

What are 6 year olds afraid of in the dark? Well, one night Ammon just wouldn't go to sleep and kept coming downstairs saying he was scared. When we asked him what he was afraid of, he says, "you know, vampires, and talking sandwiches..... and stuff." It was all I could do to not crack up. After seeing 4 of the Harry Potter films, it wasn't giant spiders or evil wizards. It was the talking sandwich from Muppets from Space. Funny, funny kid.

This is an old picture, but I thought it was a great goofy one of Ammon.

Birthday Pics

The Strawberry princess cake. Sissy helped to decorate it. I made the mistake of leaving her for a couple minutes while she was puting stuff on top. When I came back the top was all swirly from her fingers. Then she picked up a jar of rollie pollie bugs that was nearby. When I asked her if she had put any bugs on the cake, she just shrugged her shoulders. Not very comforting.
BJ's own chocolate cake. Yummy!

Chuck E. Cheese!

I'm comin' to get you!

a haircut, a birthday, wormies, and cuties

Sissy's birthday was yesterday. She's 3 years old! We haven't really celebrated yet though because we are doing a combined celebration with BJ's birthday this weekend. Here is a pic of her on her birthday anyway.

I celebrated by getting my hair cut and highlighted by Becky. Here are the results:Perhaps I should have put some make-up on for the picture. Oh well. Thanks Becky for doing a great job and saving me money! I'm not sure how I'll like the bangs, but I thought I'd give it a try.

And here is my mischeivous little guy. He's been a happy little clam lately, but gets into everything! I generally have to step over mounds of pots and pans and dishes while I am cooking in the kitchen. And his favorite thing of all is to be outside eating dirt. I don't have a picture of him eating dirt, but here he is eating flour.

Speaking of dirt, Ammon and Talia's new favorite thing is worms and rollie pollie bugs. As we have been gardening, they fight over who gets the next worm I find. They have created a worm farm in a bucket. Rollie pollie bugs are filling up many jars in the house. I remember when Ammon was Sissy's age and he would run inside screaming when he found a worm. He wouldn't go back outside until I had moved it. Sissy is really not sqeamish about such things. She has caught and squished spiders with her fingers, then carried them around calling them her "squishy." She loves ants and any little creeping thing she can find. What a little princess, huh?

A tribute to my mothers

I am very blessed to have 3 mothers in my life (my mom and 2 mom-in-laws.) I would like to pay tribute to them for Mother's Day

Shirlee-- I am grateful to her for how she raised her children. Russ is like her in that he is strong and self-sufficient and has the confidence to do so many things that others might just not even want to try. She is a teacher at heart and it shows in her children. She is talented mom-of-all-trades who can do anything she sets her mind to and is very practical, so that those things she sets her mind to are also very useful. She is happy and fun, and if I were to choose anyone to break up an argument between two people, it would be her because of her great peace-making abilities. She always makes me feel like a great wife and mother although I know I fall short.

Kristy-- She works very hard, and is the type of person who would do anything in her power to help when asked. She is accepting and caring and is the type you could go to to share all your troubles and come away feeling better. She believes the best about people and then helps them achieve it. My kids love her a lot. She makes them feel like they are the most important person in the world to her when they see her. And then I in turn feel like the most important mother for being theirs. She never forgets a birthday or important occasion.

Helene-- My own mother. She is more energetic, enthusiastic, and fashionable than most people half her age. She is truly young-at-heart. She has such a powerful testimony of the Gospel that served as a great starting ground for mine. She has been supportive and encouraging to me in all my endeavors in life. She is not afraid of new ideas and concepts and when she believes in something she really believes it all the way. She is never afraid to talk to anybody and is out to improve the health, wealth, and spirituality of all, but most of all her family. She sets a great example for me in her service and in her attitude about life. I am grateful for the way she expresses her gratitude for having me as a daughter, and making me and the kids feel important to her.
Three beautiful, strong women in my life-- I am so grateful to have them there for me and to look up to. Thanks so much, Moms! I love you and Happy Mother's Day!
